LSF is seeking a dedicated Teacher Assistant who is passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of children and families.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday.
Key Responsibilities:
As a member of the teaching team, you will:
1. Collaborate in creating engaging activities for preschool-aged children.
2. Support the lead teacher in executing educational goals and adhering to established performance standards.
3. Foster parent engagement to enhance family involvement in the educational process.
4. Occasionally act as a Bus Monitor during transportation activities.
5. Participate in quality assurance initiatives for Head Start/Early Head Start programs.
Essential Duties:
- Attend pre-service training sessions.
- Implement approved educational curricula within the classroom setting.
- Assist in guiding children's daily activities, including field trips and classroom organization.
- Work collaboratively with staff to ensure the center operates smoothly, adapting as necessary to meet children's needs.
- Document weekly observations as per assessment protocols.
- Conduct parent conferences to discuss children's development and progress, encouraging parental involvement.
- Promote social skills and self-help abilities among children during meal times.
- If required, serve as a bus monitor, engaging children in appropriate activities during transport.
- Attend staff training, meetings, and parent gatherings as requested.
- Help maintain a safe and nurturing environment conducive to development.
- Support the teacher in ensuring that children are prepared for kindergarten.
- Utilize active supervision techniques to maintain positive behavior in the classroom.
- Assist in maintaining comprehensive portfolios for each child, including assessments and examples of their work.
- Participate in home visits and parent conferences to discuss individual child development.
- Conduct daily health and safety checks.
- Aid in recruiting and orienting volunteers, providing necessary guidance.
- Uphold confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff in accordance with established policies.
- Assist the teacher with required documentation and reports.
- Attend all necessary training and meetings as directed by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- National Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) for Preschool Endorsement preferred.
- Completion of 45 hours of Florida Child Care Facility training and a 10-hour course on Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Preschoolers within the first year of employment.
- Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish or other languages) are preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for early childhood education.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults.
- Capacity to work collaboratively with a team.
- Competence in maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information.
- Physical ability to lift at least 45 pounds and assist children as needed.
