Job Overview

The Nursing Aide (NA) acts as a caregiver to residents during scheduled shifts in long-term care settings. This role involves delivering resident-centered nursing care and daily living support to assigned individuals under the guidance of a registered nurse (RN).

Possessing knowledge of and providing age-appropriate care tailored to the physical and psychological needs of residents as outlined in their care plans.

As a valued member of the nursing team, the NA is responsible for adhering to infection prevention and control protocols and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.

Assists with essential health care needs, including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and offering psychosocial support and personal care to assigned residents.

Facilitates resident transfers, repositioning, and ambulation using appropriate techniques and equipment, while also providing range of motion and passive exercises.

Completes tasks related to meal preparation and dining, ensuring a positive dining experience for residents. Assists with meals and snacks, providing hydration and nutritional supplements as needed.

The NA supports healthcare providers and nursing staff with procedures as necessary. Documents resident interactions and outcomes related to care, behavior, activities, and dietary needs. Communicates any changes in residents' conditions and care-related concerns to the charge nurse. Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and records vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean and functional living spaces. Assists with wellness and recreational programs, encouraging resident participation. May engage in departmental or organizational committees and task forces as required.

Qualifications

High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not mandatory.

Minimum age of 16. Previous clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care is advantageous.


Must possess a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or be a state-certified CNA within four months of starting the position by enrolling in a training program or pursuing certification through Endorsement.

CNA training and certification will be provided by the facility.

Must satisfactorily complete annual department-specific competency assessments and maintain a record of continuing education credits each year, with a minimum of 12 hours required annually. All department-specific certifications must be maintained.

When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry in relevant states.

Depending on facility requirements, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver, necessitating a motor vehicle report and proof of a valid driver's license. Must also be medically qualified to perform essential driving functions as per our Sanford Driving Policy upon request.
