About the PositionWe are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Surveyor Trainee to join our dynamic team at Cage Engineering Inc. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in surveying within the land development industry.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in conducting land surveys and measurements for our projects.
- Operate and maintain surveying instruments and equipment, including total stations, GPS units, and laser levels.
- Collect and record accurate data for project planning and design purposes.
- Assist in the preparation of detailed survey reports, maps, and drawings.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and construction teams to ensure accurate implementation of survey data.
- Conduct site visits to monitor and verify the accuracy of construction activities and ensure compliance with design specifications.
- Support the senior surveyor in ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, boundaries, topographic surveys, as-built surveys, and various types of Plats (Subdivisions, Easements, Dedication, etc.).
- Learn and adhere to industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance surveying skills and knowledge.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, geomatics, surveying, or a related field.
- Surveyor In Training (SIT) Licensure (current).
- Minimum of 1 year of Land Surveying work experience, after obtaining SIT.
- AutoCAD Civil 3D-experience including parcels, label styles, surfaces, and Plat drafting.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in using surveying instruments and software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS applications).
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Physical stamina to handle the demands of fieldwork.
- Candidates will be expected to perform land surveying and construction tasks and must obtain their professional licensure (PLS) within a 4-year window or sooner.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to different project sites.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform physical activities such as bending, twisting, squatting, lifting, and moving objects of up to 50 pounds across various terrains.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Knowledge of and compliance with OSHA safety standards and regulations.
- Adherence to Illinois Department of Labor regulations and federal employment laws, including non-discrimination policies.
- Previous internship or coursework related to surveying or civil engineering.
- Remote Pilot Certificate (FAA Part 107 license/certificate) & experience setting up and flying a drone.
- Running a 3D scanner for data collection.
- Processing a point cloud data.
- Experience with Trimble Business Center (TBC).
- Basic understanding of construction processes.
