Position Overview:


In this role, the Lead Obstetrical Technician operates under the guidance of the Registered Nurse, providing essential support to the nursing team within the Labor and Delivery Unit by executing non-nursing tasks.


Key Responsibilities:
Supervises and evaluates the performance of fellow OB Technicians. Engages in the onboarding and training of new OB Technicians within the department. Conducts inspections of labor and delivery rooms to ensure all equipment and supplies are in optimal condition. Monitors preventive maintenance schedules for equipment and tracks supply expiration dates. Prepares emergency equipment for immediate use. Greets patients upon arrival and guides them to their designated rooms. Collects necessary identification from patients, including Kaiser Card and photo ID, and creates temporary patient ID bracelets. Facilitates patient transport to various areas such as delivery rooms, Cesarean sections, ultrasound, or postpartum units as needed. Reviews testing schedules and retrieves patient charts. Ensures the availability of necessary medical packs. Prepares sterile delivery tables and neonatal units for childbirth. Unpacks and organizes materials for Cesarean deliveries. Assists in scrubbing for C-sections. Aids the RN in the recovery, delivery, and Cesarean rooms. Organizes and files monitor strips appropriately. Cleans instruments and prepares them for sterilization. Transports specimens to the laboratory.

Maintains cleanliness and organization in utility and supply rooms. Responds to calls and inquiries promptly. Performs additional related tasks as required. This position provides motivation and guidance to other staff members but does not hold the authority to hire, terminate, discipline, or evaluate performance.

Adheres to corporate compliance standards by ensuring confidentiality, safeguarding organizational assets, acting with integrity, and reporting any observed misconduct while complying with relevant laws and policies.

Qualifications:
Experience:
The senior classification for Obstetrical Technician applies to those specifically assigned to oversee and evaluate the work of other technicians or those with a minimum of two years of experience in the field, demonstrating the ability to perform complex procedures under general supervision as outlined by departmental standards.Skills:
Ability to read and understand instructions, correspondence, and memos. Proficient in writing basic correspondence. Familiarity with computer operations.

Ability to effectively communicate information in both individual and small group settings to clients, customers, and colleagues.

Work Environment:
Must be open to working within a Labor Management Partnership framework. Refer to the relevant position specifications in the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required. BLS certification is necessary.
Licenses and Certifications:
Basic Life Support certification is required.
