Job Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist is a critical member of the healthcare team, responsible for administering respiratory therapy procedures to diagnose and treat patients with respiratory and pulmonary disorders.

The ideal candidate will assess patient condition, consult with physicians to determine treatment plans, and monitor patient progress to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.


Responsibilities:
Administers physician-prescribed respiratory therapy, including oxygen, respiratory medication, PFTs, ABGs, and mechanical ventilation.

Performs evaluation procedures to determine respiratory care needs and makes recommendations based on department protocols to improve patient outcomes and facilitate discharge.

Monitors patients requiring mechanical ventilation, including clinical assessment, routine rounds, troubleshooting, weaning, airway care, and diagnostic testing to ensure patient safety and appropriate care.

Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens for diagnosis. Measures lung capacity to determine impairments.
Offers diagnostic results and treatment suggestions based on analysis.
Communicates with healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
Assures smooth operation of the PFT and ABG laboratory, or other duties assigned by the supervisor or manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Proficiencies):
Professional competency in the science of Respiratory Care commensurate with the NBRC credential.

Required Experience, Education, Certification(s), License(s):
Graduate of a AMA-approved School of Respiratory Care.

Licensed by the State Board of Medicine or State Board of Osteopathic Medicine.

Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support/BLS.

Associate's/2-year degree required.

Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care (if Certified or not registered by the NBRC, must obtain NBRC registration within 2 years of hire).


Preferred Experience, Education, Degree, Certification(s), License(s):
ACLS and/or NALS preferred.

Prior experience preferred.

Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson's clinical entities or at the University.
