Role Summary:
We are in search of a committed Registered Nurse to join our Oncology Department.
In the role of a Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Radiation Oncology, you will be instrumental in delivering care and support to patients receiving radiation therapy as part of their cancer treatment.
Your duties will include managing patient care, administering radiation treatments, educating and supporting patients and their families, and working alongside a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform initial evaluations of patients scheduled for radiation therapy.
- Inform patients and their families about radiation treatment processes, potential side effects, and self-care strategies.
- Provide emotional support and address any concerns related to treatment.
- Administer radiation therapy treatments in accordance with the prescribed treatment plan.
- Ensure precise positioning of patients for treatment and confirm treatment parameters.
- Monitor patients during treatment sessions for any adverse reactions and implement appropriate interventions.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols for managing radiation equipment and materials.
- Maintain radiation safety standards within the treatment area.
- Comply with all regulatory standards and organizational policies regarding radiation therapy.
- Collaborate with radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists, and other healthcare team members to create and execute personalized treatment plans.
Qualifications:
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
- Certification in Radiation Oncology Nursing (OCN or Certified Radiation Nurse) is preferred.
- Prior experience in oncology nursing, particularly in radiation oncology, is advantageous.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Capability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMRs) and basic computer skills.
Working Environment:
- Fast-paced setting with exposure to various medical emergencies and critical situations.
- Physical demands include prolonged standing, lifting and transferring patients, and exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials.
- Collaboration with a diverse group of healthcare professionals in a multidisciplinary context.
