GENERAL SUMMARY


The Clinical Oncology Pharmacy Specialist collaborates with oncology providers and nursing teams to ensure optimal patient care across our oncology locations.

The pharmacist is tasked with delivering pharmacy services in alignment with established policies, regulatory standards, and quality improvement initiatives to guarantee safe and effective patient care.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adheres to organizational and departmental policies, performance improvement goals, and safety standards.
  • Implements processes to meet accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Conducts therapeutic monitoring, patient evaluations, and pharmacokinetic calculations for various treatment modalities.
  • Provides expert advice on medication selection and dosing based on current clinical guidelines.
  • Ensures accurate and timely order entry for medications.
  • Reviews and updates medication profiles while monitoring patient charges.
  • Evaluates medication orders for appropriateness, safety, and effectiveness, seeking clarification when necessary.
  • Identifies additional testing needs to support therapeutic decisions.
  • Assists in transitioning inpatient regimens to outpatient protocols.
  • Collaborates with oncology practitioners on supportive care and toxicity management.
  • Engages in quality improvement projects with physicians.
  • Works with patient assistance teams to secure medications for patients.
  • Promotes teamwork and offers support to colleagues.
  • Participates in educational activities for nursing staff.
  • Identifies opportunities for process enhancements to improve patient care.
  • Actively participates in multidisciplinary meetings and provides drug information.
  • Involves in the training of pharmacy students and residents.
  • Contributes to formulary management and cost-effective pharmaceutical assessments.
  • Maintains personal and professional development through ongoing education and training.


Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Direct patient interaction and care.
  • Maintaining patient records and ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Supervising pharmacy technicians and assisting with acute care situations.
  • Staying updated on pharmaceutical advancements and disseminating information to the team.
  • Compounding sterile products and adhering to safety protocols.
  • Collaborating with pharmacy leadership on process improvements.

LICENSES:
Current pharmacy licensure in Ohio and compliance with continuing education requirements.
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited pharmacy program (BS or PharmD).
EXPERIENCE:
Completion of a PGY1 residency or three years of relevant hospital experience, particularly in oncology settings.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of a PGY2 oncology residency, BCOP certification, and experience in multidisciplinary oncology practice.
