Position Overview

The Interventional Radiology Technologist plays a critical role in providing advanced imaging services within the healthcare setting. This position is essential for supporting various interventional procedures and ensuring optimal patient care.

Job Details
  • Specialty: Interventional Radiology (IR Tech)
  • Facility: Virginia Mason Medical Center
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Department: Interventional Radiology
  • Typical Procedures: Involvement in all IR procedures, including support for neuro IR, vascular, and neuro surgeons. Responsibilities include scrubbing in and circulating during procedures, as well as participating in the on-call team.
  • Daily Case Load: Expect to manage between 10-20 cases daily, with additional stroke cases varying from 1-4 weekly. Two IR techs are assigned per room.
  • Experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience is required, with a preference for candidates with travel experience and familiarity with stroke receiving facilities.
  • Equipment: Proficient use of Philips imaging equipment is essential.
  • Orientation: New travelers will be paired with a preceptor during their first week for departmental orientation.
Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; travel experience and stroke facility experience are preferred.
Schedule Information
  • Shifts: 4-10 hour shifts with rotating days off, starting at either 7:00 AM or 7:30 AM.
  • Weeknight/Call Requirements: 1-2 days per week, with weeknight call from 6:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
  • Weekend/Call Requirements: On-call for one weekend per month, with a group of 9 taking turns. Call begins Friday at 6:00 PM and ends Monday at 7:00 AM.
  • Holiday/Call Requirement: Must work if a holiday falls on a scheduled shift or call shift, with holiday pay provided.
  • Response Time: 30 minutes required for call or standby situations.
Unit Specific Information
  • Scanners/Radiology Rooms: The department is equipped with 3 rooms (2 biplane and 1 single plane), with one room always reserved for stroke cases.
  • Floating/Additional Coverage: May be required to float to hybrid OR settings; experience is not mandatory.
  • IV Start Requirements: IV starts are performed by IR RNs.
  • Dress Code: Scrubs are provided for all staff.
