Floor Maintenance Specialist

Job Summary:

The Floor Technician will be responsible for the overall floor maintenance of hard surface and carpet areas, including offices, classrooms, lobbies, entrances, stairwells, stages, hallways, and other public areas. This role requires a strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Follows all safety requirements and procedures at all times
• Performs preventative maintenance checks on all equipment prior to use at the beginning and end of the shift
• Handles floor care, including routine mopping (dry and damp), buffing, and burnishing on hard surface
• Provides floor maintenance, including but not limited to, vacuuming, shampooing, bonneting, and extracting carpets, stairwells, and upholstery
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Knowledge of the materials, methods, implements, and devices used in cleaning building areas
• Ability to understand and speak English and follow oral and written instructions
• Possess strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work as a team player
• Possess considerable knowledge of the operation, use, and care of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and general housekeeping equipment
• Ability to work under pressure and time constraints (due to schedule and last-minute job requests)
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend assignments

• Frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms
• Ability to walk safely and climb stairs
• Hearing sufficient to clearly hear voices, alarms, bells, and horns
• Ability to read and write printed words and numbers in printed form
• Regularly required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, with the use of appropriate safety equipment
• Employee must possess sufficient physical strength and ability to perform a variety of janitorial tasks related to the care and maintenance of buildings and equipment
• Employee must be capable of frequently pushing/pulling a custodial cart/trash cart up to 100 lbs. on concrete, tile, and carpeted floors
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Education and Work Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Verifiable work experience as a Floor Technician
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively around the public and other employees
• Candidates must be able to pass a background check
