At The Learning Experience, our Culinary Specialists are responsible for crafting nutritionally balanced, visually appealing meals for young children. While fostering a joyful atmosphere throughout the center, our specialists must adhere to established menus, manage food orders within the center's budget, and comply with state and federal nutritional standards for children. Given the unique needs of childcare, it is essential that the Culinary Specialist is both mentally and physically prepared to fulfill the responsibilities outlined in this position.

Key Responsibilities:
Menu Planning, Preparation, and Equipment Maintenance:
- Possess knowledge of state nutritional guidelines for children.
- Design, display, and execute approved menus that are nutritionally sound, making necessary substitutions.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and place food orders, all while adhering to the center's food budget.
- Prepare and serve food in quantities that align with the number of children and staff present each day.
- Ensure food is served at the correct temperatures and in suitable serving containers.
- Maintain safe and effective storage for food, cooking, serving supplies, and cleaning materials in compliance with local regulations.
- Keep precise meal and snack count records as required by applicable guidelines.
Health and Safety Protocols:
- Adhere to all local health, safety, and hygiene regulations, including proper lifting and handwashing techniques.
- Regularly empty and sanitize trash receptacles.
- Wash and sanitize dishes and cookware according to local health department standards.
- Keep kitchen appliances clean and in optimal working condition.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen counters and shelves.
- Understand and implement emergency procedures as necessary.
Additional Duties:
- Seek assistance when required.
- Foster positive relationships with business partners, licensing bodies, and regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate effectively with other center staff and demonstrate enthusiasm for the role.
- Approach routine situations with sound judgment, flexibility, and a positive demeanor.

Qualifications:
- Educational Requirements: Must meet state-specific guidelines; High School Diploma or GED required. Early Childhood Education coursework preferred.
- Experience: Relevant experience in a licensed childcare facility kitchen, commercial kitchen, or public school cafeteria.
- State Compliance: Must meet state-specific requirements for the role, including having a food service/food handlers permit as per local regulations.
- Child Interaction Skills: Proven ability to identify and mitigate potential risks in a childcare environment.
- Physical Resilience: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds, and maintain mental and physical alertness.
