About the Role

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join our Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy (HMCT) Service at Duke University Hospital. As a key member of our team, you will provide direct patient care on our inpatient HMCT unit, working collaboratively with attending physicians and other medical professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.
  • Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform thorough physical examinations.
  • Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post-treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, and treatment toxicities.
  • Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgment, including prescribing appropriate medications.
  • Chart patient progress, maintaining detailed and accurate health records.
  • Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documentation of toxicities and data collection.
  • Communicate effectively among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care.
  • Collaborate, support, and build strong relationships with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members.
  • Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students, and other learners.
  • See scheduled and unscheduled patients.
  • Attend program-required meetings.
  • Maintain up-to-date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.
  • Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics, and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
  • Maintain institutional requirements for compliance.
Requirements
  • Education: NP - Graduate of MSN or DNP accredited Nurse Practitioner Program for adult care; PA - Graduate of ARC accredited Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree Physician Assistant Program.
  • Certification: NP - Any NP certification that treats adults (FNP, ANP, AGNP, AGACNP, etc.); PA - PA-C.
  • Licensure: NP - Unrestricted RN licensure issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as a NP; PA - Unrestricted medical license issued by NCMB with authorization to practice as PA.
  • Both: Federal and State DEA independent license with prescriptive authority.
  • Experience: APP experience is preferred, ideally Oncology related, but recent or new APP grads graduating by December 2024 are welcome to apply.
Work Environment

This is a 12-hour day shift, 7A-7P, 13 shifts per 28 days. Duke University Hospital is a dynamic and fast-paced environment that requires flexibility and adaptability.
