This unit is a 16-bed cardiovascular/cardiothoracic care unit. The primary specialty is post-open heart/CABG patients. Post-op CABG patients will recover in the ICU for 2-3 days. The patient population includes cardiac procedure requiring ICU level care, open-heart patients direct from the OR, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, TAVR procedure, and STEMI intervention.
Key Responsibilities
- Care for patients requiring ventilator support, SWAN-GANZ catheters, vasopressors, inotrope drips, high alert drips, intra-aortic balloon pumps, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), IMPELLA devices, and chest tubes.
- Provide quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement individualized plans of care, incorporating patient-family centered care principles.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Associates in Nursing Required.
- Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years.
- Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
- MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from one of the following organizations - American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Canadian Heart and Stroke Required upon hire.
- AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Required within 6 months.
- Specialty Certification highly recommended within 2 years.
- 1 year of experience as an RN in the ICU Preferred.
- Direct inpatient care required.
