Position Overview
This academic leadership role encompasses responsibilities at two community colleges, focusing on fostering an environment of mentorship and collaboration to support diverse student populations in achieving their educational aspirations.
The successful candidate will be committed to enhancing educational opportunities for a racially and socioeconomically diverse student body. The colleges prioritize educational attainment and economic development within their communities. The chosen leader will work with a dedicated team to implement curricula that respond effectively to student needs.
The region is currently facing a significant nursing workforce shortage, prompting the need for a Dean of Nursing Instruction to oversee program enhancement and potential development of new degree pathways. Candidates should possess experience as a Registered Nursing Program Director along with clinical expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Under general supervision, the Dean of Nursing Instruction will:
1. Plan, organize, and manage the educational processes and administrative functions of nursing programs.
2. Provide leadership for program development, including partnerships, scheduling, and curriculum enhancement.
3. Conduct faculty evaluations and oversee tenure processes.
4. Engage in strategic planning and policy development to improve service delivery to students and the community.
5. Ensure compliance with educational regulations and nursing board requirements.
6. Promote the nursing program and cultivate relationships with community partners and donors.
7. Participate in governance processes and perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Must demonstrate an understanding of diverse academic and cultural backgrounds of community college students, alongside a commitment to equity-minded practices.
Applicants should possess a master's degree or higher in nursing, education, or health administration from an accredited institution, along with relevant administrative experience or a California Community College Supervisory Credential. Additionally, candidates must have teaching experience in an associate degree or higher-level nursing program and direct patient care experience as a registered nurse.
Desirable Attributes
Experience addressing equity issues and a commitment to fostering inclusive educational environments are highly valued. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in California is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
Candidates should possess advanced knowledge of nursing practices, instructional program development, and applicable laws and regulations. Skills in leadership, conflict resolution, and effective communication are essential for success in this role.
