Position Overview:

This role is focused on the innovative field of cyber-physical security within the energy sector. The Cyber-Physical Security Engineer will contribute to the research and development of advanced technologies that enhance situational awareness in Transmission and Distribution systems.

Work Environment:

The engineer will be part of a dynamic team at the Schatz Grid Visualization and Analytics Center, where cutting-edge research and pre-operational development take place. The focus will be on technologies such as synchrophasor systems, next-generation control center functionalities, and cyber security testing.

Key Responsibilities:

The Cyber-Physical Security Engineer will:

  • Support and lead projects aimed at deploying and assessing the performance of emerging technologies.
  • Conduct cyber-physical security research specific to Transmission and Distribution.
  • Utilize power system and cyber modeling, simulation, and analysis to identify threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Leverage data from various sources to develop models that characterize normal operational data and identify anomalies.

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess:
  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, cyber security, information systems, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • An advanced degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in cybersecurity, including modeling and simulation.
  • Familiarity with intrusion detection and risk assessment frameworks.
  • Experience in power system modeling and simulation.
  • Proficiency in data analytics, including machine learning.
  • Programming skills in languages such as Python, C#, or SQL.
