POSITION SUMMARY
The Practical Nurse Specialist (PNS) plays a crucial role in delivering quality patient care through the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Under the supervision of Registered Nurses, the PNS directs and facilitates patient education activities based on their training and competencies.
In collaboration with Registered Nurses, the PNS assists in evaluating the physical, psychological, and social aspects of patients within the healthcare unit and, when necessary, in housing units.
The PNS contributes to the planning and execution of personalized treatment programs by utilizing available resources and consulting with healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities include implementing medical plans by administering medications and interventions as per provider instructions.
Documentation of nursing encounters, patient responses, effectiveness, and complications is essential, along with communication of pertinent information to supervisory personnel and physicians in accordance with provider orders.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The following criteria outline the minimum qualifications required:
LICENSING:
Current, unrestricted New Mexico Practical Nursing License
CERTIFICATION:
Current CPR Certification
EDUCATION:
Graduate from an accredited nursing program
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience is preferred, with correctional experience being advantageous.
