Mystic Seaport Museum seeks a skilled Shipwright I Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in ship and boat maintenance, preservation or restoration projects.
Job Description:The primary focus of this role is to perform Maintenance and Restoration tasks related to watercraft preservation, including heavy timber ship carpentry and joinery.
- Main Responsibilities:
- Proficient in caulk and paint vessels in a traditional manner
- Perform work in support of other areas of the museum
- Represent Mystic Seaport Museum in a professional manner at all times
- To teach and pass on skills to others through various methods
Requirements:
- A minimum of five years' experience in ship and boat maintenance, preservation or restoration projects
- Possess a high degree of skill within the above areas of responsibility
- Willingness to work flexible hours and weekends on a rotational basis
- Ability to work unsupervised on assigned tasks and projects
- A valid driver's license and State Safe Boating Certificate are required
Desirable Skills:
- Carpentry as related to traditional watercraft preservation and new construction
- Caulking and painting vessels in a traditional manner
- Heavy timber sawmilling and material handling
- Research related to watercraft preservation
Estimated Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per year
