Mystic Seaport Museum seeks a skilled Shipwright I Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in ship and boat maintenance, preservation or restoration projects.

Job Description:

The primary focus of this role is to perform Maintenance and Restoration tasks related to watercraft preservation, including heavy timber ship carpentry and joinery.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Proficient in caulk and paint vessels in a traditional manner
  • Perform work in support of other areas of the museum
  • Represent Mystic Seaport Museum in a professional manner at all times
  • To teach and pass on skills to others through various methods

Requirements:

  • A minimum of five years' experience in ship and boat maintenance, preservation or restoration projects
  • Possess a high degree of skill within the above areas of responsibility
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and weekends on a rotational basis
  • Ability to work unsupervised on assigned tasks and projects
  • A valid driver's license and State Safe Boating Certificate are required

Desirable Skills:

  • Carpentry as related to traditional watercraft preservation and new construction
  • Caulking and painting vessels in a traditional manner
  • Heavy timber sawmilling and material handling
  • Research related to watercraft preservation

Estimated Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per year
