We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Unit Secretary to join our team at IASIS Healthcare. As a Unit Secretary, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our healthcare unit, providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate unit activity, serving as the primary point of contact between the unit and transport, ancillaries, and physicians.
- Answer all calls, identifying the department and name, and provide accurate information to patients and families.
- Maintain and update physician pager numbers monthly, ensuring timely communication during downtime.
- Report any telephone problems to communications and escalate to the Director/Supervisor as needed.
- Monitor that all patients have proper arm bands, and contact registration/admissions for replacement as necessary.
- Maintain stock of lab/x-ray requisitions for downtime and report printer and computer problems to the help desk.
- Provide and track data, such as page to MD and response, discharge information, and other requested metrics.
- Order and maintain accurate par levels for inventories, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Assist in maintaining a safe environment, intervening appropriately when necessary.
- Utilize proper procedures and address patients' concerns by notifying the charge nurse or Director.
- Participate in quality improvement projects as requested by the Director and respond to staffing needs by cross-training and floating to other units.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting, preferably as a Unit Secretary or in a similar role.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in electronic medical records (EMRs) a plus.
