Overview:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist delivers comprehensive care to patients through the application of the nursing process. This encompasses continuous evaluation of the overall patient condition. Key Responsibilities:
(40%)* Conducts regular assessments of patient requirements and delivers skilled nursing services as outlined by the physician's approved care plan and recognized standards of nursing practice.

(30%)* Offers direct patient care including medication administration, treatment procedures, patient education, responding to call lights, assisting with transfers, and managing alarms, among other relevant tasks.

(20%)* Evaluates the effectiveness of the treatment strategy and contributes to updating or modifying the care plan in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, utilizing the latest information to enhance patient care.

(10%)* The nurse is knowledgeable and adheres to all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as hospital-specific policies and procedures regarding care delivery in the healthcare facility.

Performs insertion and care of various tubes as per physician orders, adhering to proper protocols. Provides routine care and education for catheters and surgical drains following physician directives. Administers care for drains and assists with their removal.


Removes sutures and skin clips, provides routine ostomy care, and manages wound irrigation and packing, following physician orders and care plans.

Conducts accurate CVP readings as per physician orders and established procedures. Sets up, instructs, and monitors the use of PCA.

Obtains doppler pulses following established protocols. Provides routine care for gastrostomy/jejunostomy tubes according to procedures and physician orders. Assists in heparin therapy protocols as per procedures.

Applies basic traction, splints, braces, and CPM machines following procedures and physician orders.

Manages the cutting and trimming of casts, and removes wound drains as per physician orders and established procedures.

Maintains precautions for total hip and total knee patients and provides instruction to patients.

Must adhere to MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing requirements. MyMichigan Health is a technology-driven organization, and employees are expected to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Windows.
