Job Summary

The Radiology Technologist Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the radiology department by assisting with patient care, preparing and maintaining equipment, and ensuring efficient workflow. This position is crucial in facilitating the imaging process and ensuring patient comfort and safety.

Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care
  • Assist patients in preparing for radiologic procedures, including changing into appropriate gowns and positioning on the examination table.
  • Provide clear instructions to patients regarding procedures and address any questions or concerns.
  • Monitor patients during procedures to ensure their comfort and safety.
Procedure Assistance
  • Assist Radiology Technologists in performing radiologic examinations, including positioning patients and handling equipment.
  • Ensure that all necessary supplies and accessories are available and prepared for use.
  • Assist with the administration of contrast materials under the supervision of a Radiology Technologist.
Equipment Preparation and Maintenance
  • Prepare, clean, and maintain radiology equipment before and after procedures.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure that examination rooms are stocked with necessary supplies and are kept clean and organized.
Documentation and Records Management
  • Assist with maintaining accurate patient records and documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Input patient information and procedure details into the EHR as directed by Radiology Technologists.
Safety and Compliance
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure patient and staff safety.
  • Follow radiation safety procedures to minimize exposure to radiation for patients, staff, and self.
  • Comply with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Administrative Support
  • Schedule patient appointments and manage patient flow to ensure timely and efficient service.
  • Assist with reception duties, including greeting patients and answering phones as needed.
  • Coordinate with other departments to facilitate patient care and imaging procedures.
Professional Development
  • Participate in ongoing training and education to stay current with best practices and advancements in radiology.
  • Attend departmental meetings and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a radiology technologist assistant program or relevant training preferred.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in radiology or medical imaging, is an advantage.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems is beneficial.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Basic understanding of radiology procedures and medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software applications.

Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Additional certifications related to radiology or healthcare assistance are a plus.
