Library Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Library Assistant. This role will provide essential support to our library customers, ensuring a positive and efficient experience.
Key Responsibilities- Provide circulation assistance to library customers, including checking out and returning materials, and answering questions about library services.
- Perform public service support tasks, such as shelving books, processing materials, and maintaining the library collection.
- Assist with maintenance of the library collection, including sorting, shelving, and shifting materials.
- Respond to customer inquiries and resolve issues in a professional and courteous manner.
- Operate the library's automated circulation system and other software applications as needed.
- Assist with outreach and other library programs, as assigned.
- High school graduation or equivalent, plus one year of experience working in a library or customer service role.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds and perform repetitive hand, arm, wrist, and shoulder movements.
- Ability to stand for 2 hours at a time and travel to various locations throughout Fairfax County.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and staff, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience working with automated library systems and software.
- Experience providing customer service in a library or other public setting.
- Ability to speak a second language, particularly Spanish or other languages spoken by Fairfax County residents.
