Job Summary

Under general direction from the Water and Energy Management Systems Manager, the IT Energy Management Systems Engineer will design, develop, enhance, integrate and support the real-time computing systems software and hardware, power system applications and database administration to contribute to the safe, reliable and economical operation of the District's generation, transmission and distribution operation facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Configure, analyze, administer and troubleshoot real-time applications/programs.
  • Assist vendor and other personnel in hardware and software upgrades to the real-time energy management system software as needed.
  • Development and implementation of supplemental applications to support changing market requirements and needs.
  • Responsible for development, operation and maintenance of operating systems software, network and/or configuration management and database activities for real-time computer systems.
  • Development and maintenance of applications/programs for energy management, outage management, control area applications, power system scheduling, monitoring, control, accounting and analysis of the District's generation, transmission, distribution operations and water operations facilities to meet set requirements and safe operating procedures.
  • Assists in implementation/modifications of remote terminal units, real-time computer operating systems, department networks, databases, archival systems, real-time workstations and data links between District systems and other utilities for data exchange.
Requirements
  • Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required skills and abilities is qualifying.
  • A typical way to obtain the skills and abilities would be: Education - Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, typically with a major or minor in computer information systems, computer science, engineering or related field.
  • Experience - IT Energy Management Systems Engineer I - None required. Any relevant experience in computer systems maintenance and management; database administration; support of computer systems operations; assisting staff in support of real-time systems development for energy management systems.
  • IT Energy Management Systems Engineer II - Usually exhibited by a person with three (3) or more years of experience at the IT EMS Engineer level in relationship to computer systems maintenance and management; database administration; support of computer systems operations; assisting staff in support of real-time systems development for energy management systems.
  • Senior IT Energy Management Systems Engineer - Usually exhibited by a person with six (6) or more years of experience at the IT EMS Engineer level in relationship to computer systems maintenance and management; database administration; support of computer systems operations; assisting staff in support of real-time systems development for energy management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Interpersonal and Communications - Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing with both internal and external contacts; and work cooperatively with executive and management staff, employees and others to provide effective technology services support at agreed-upon support levels.
  • Technical and Analytical - Knowledge of systems analysis, programming and testing procedures utilizing District standard computing platforms; methods practices and principles involved in maintaining an effective hardware and software platform; work on multiple tasks concurrently; analyze and resolve computer system problems; and properly interpret various situations in accordance with existing laws, rules, regulations and policies.
  • Administration and Operations - Knowledge of operation and care of general-purpose computer equipment and principles of project management. Ability to work in a rapidly changing work environment and to work well under pressure; maintain work quality while meeting reasonable deadlines; refine organizational skills and work independently; and direct the work of internal and external project team members as part of project management responsibility.
