Responsibilities

The RN's practice is guided by the ANA Standards for Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics. The RN is knowledgeable in professional nursing principles, practices, and procedures as they relate to patient care.

The RN will:

  • Document patients' medical histories and symptoms
  • Assist in performing diagnostic tests and analyzing results
  • Operate medical equipment and administer treatments and medications
  • Develop or contribute to care plans tailored to individual patient needs

Key responsibilities include:

  • Administering medications while ensuring accuracy and safety
  • Managing intravenous (IV) lines for fluids and medications
  • Observing and recording patient conditions
  • Consulting with physicians and healthcare team members

The RN will educate patients and their families on managing illnesses, post-treatment care, nutrition, and self-administration of medications. Additionally, the RN will provide guidance to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides regarding patient care and support the advancement of clinical knowledge within the team.

Continuous professional development is essential, and the RN will engage in enhancing their skills and knowledge related to patient care and nursing management.

Qualifications

Education: Associate's Degree or Diploma in Nursing required. All staff responsible for stroke patient care must meet specific educational requirements.

Experience: A minimum of 10 months in a medical-surgical or acute specialty setting is required, with at least 1 year of RN experience for float positions.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) State and/or Compact State Licensure
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
