Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Histology Laboratory Technician to join our team at Suncoast Skin Solutions. As a Histotech, you will play a critical role in maintaining efficient Histology lab(s) and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulatory entities and guidelines governing the operation of histopathology labs within a physician practice environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Operations
    • Function as a Histotechnician, responsible for preparing tissue specimens for microscopic examination and patient diagnosis.
    • Maintain par levels for all supplies required for the processing of tissue.
    • Ensure that all required maintenance of capital equipment used in the laboratory is performed according to industry and regulatory standards.
    • Submit reports to the Lab Director in a timely manner.
    • Perform recuts and additional stains, including special and immunohistochemistry stains, as requested by a Pathologist.
    • Operate computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by Pathologist.

    • Demonstrate initiative and responsibility in performing repetitive tasks without loss of focus.
    • Adhere to ethical principles and maintain confidentiality.
    • Develop and maintain strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with colleagues and patients.
    • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and advancements in histopathology.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Maintain accurate and detailed records of laboratory procedures and results.
    • Conduct quality control checks on laboratory equipment and supplies.
    • Participate in ongoing training and education to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Team Collaboration
    • Work collaboratively with laboratory staff to ensure efficient laboratory operations.
    • Provide guidance and training to Laboratory Assistants and Histology Technicians as needed.
    • Contribute to a positive and supportive team environment.
    Requirements
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; AS degree or higher preferred.
    • State of Florida clinical license in histology required.
    • 1 year of Histotech experience preferred.
    • Knowledgeable in computer programs, EMR systems, and customer service.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills.
    Working Conditions
    • Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking.
    • Occasional travel.
    • Multitasking.
    • Repetitive head, neck, hands, wrists, and arm motion/rotation.
    • Extensive reading, writing, and typing required.
    • Lifting to 40 lbs.
