Job Title: Advanced Practice Provider Surgical First Assistant

Join our team at OrthoIndy Hospital Northwest as an Advanced Practice Provider Surgical First Assistant. In this role, you will provide direct surgical first assist support and assess patients using skills and knowledge to identify orthopedic related problems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Directly first assists the Surgeon during surgical procedures.
  • Assists with patient positioning and surgical skin prepping.
  • Provides patient treatment, including but not limited to: applying or removing casts or splints, wound care and repair, joint injections and aspiration, administration of local anesthetic and digital blocks, joint and fracture reduction, and application of braces, splints, and other DME or post-surgical devices.
  • Alleviates patient's fears prior to surgical procedures.
  • Provides patient and family instruction on the proper use and care of braces, splints, and other DME or post-surgical products.
  • Communicates individualized teaching plans to patients based on their needs.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner required, Master's Degree preferred.
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or American Association of Nurse Practitioners certification required.
  • Indiana Physician Assistant Committee or Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses of Indiana certification required.
  • 1-2 years of experience required; 2-4 years of experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
