About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Technician I to join our team at Dwelling Place. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing physical structures of our apartment buildings and grounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform Maintenance and Repairs: Conduct work orders in a safe and timely manner, including emergency, on-call, make-ready, preventative, inspection, routine, or resident request repairs.
  • Inspect and Report: Inspect property for improvements and repairs, and report unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Inventory and Supply Management: Maintain control of inventory and utilization of maintenance materials and supplies, and operate and perform scheduled maintenance on all equipment.
  • Work Area Maintenance: Keep work area and tools clean and in order at all times.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Assist in keeping property free of debris and rubbish at all times.
  • Emergency Response: Be immediately available in the event of snow, and shovel snow, remove ice, and apply ice melt to walks and driveways as conditions exist.
  • Collaboration and Support: Assist Property Management or other staff and contractors when requested, and be responsible for the security of the property at all times.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Grounds Maintenance Tasks: Perform landscaping responsibilities, such as planting and cutting lawns, trimming and edging around walks, planting and caring for flower beds, and cleaning grounds, raking and bagging leaves, and removing litter.
  • Minor Repairs and Upkeep: Repair fences, gates, walls, and walks, paint fences, stairs/stairwells, and outbuildings, and maintain and repair grounds equipment.
  • Snow Removal: Operate snow removal equipment to maintain parking lots, driveways, and sidewalks, and apply ice melt to public passageways as needed.
  • Vendor Support: Pick up and/or deliver items from vendors or donors.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or General education degree (GED) and two or more years related experience and/or training.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, and ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Professional Licenses: Valid Michigan Driver's License.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Must be self-directed, capable of working independently, and responsible for completing assignments in a realistic time frame.
