About this position:

The Retail Associate role encompasses a variety of responsibilities that contribute to the smooth operation of the store. This includes assisting customers with donations, selections, and purchases; managing the cash register; addressing customer inquiries; ensuring the store displays are clean and organized; and safeguarding store merchandise and cash assets.

The Sorting Room responsibilities involve receiving, categorizing, pricing, and preparing donated goods for display; assessing the appropriateness and pricing of items based on set criteria; and helping maintain the cleanliness and order of the storage area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitates customer transactions by processing sales through the cash register; handles cash, counts change, and issues receipts; packages purchased items; reconciles the cash drawer and generates routine sales reports; prepares bank deposits; and ensures the security of cash register funds and sales documentation according to established protocols.
  • Maintains various sales records, tax documentation, and social service vouchers; prepares regular sales reports as needed.
  • Handles incoming store calls in a polite and professional manner; assists customers by answering questions and providing information; may schedule donation pickups.
  • Guides customers by clarifying store policies and addressing inquiries regarding pricing and purchasing; ensures a positive shopping experience for all visitors.
  • Receives, evaluates, and categorizes donated items such as clothing, footwear, household goods, and miscellaneous items based on condition and category.
  • Selects items appropriate for store display and organizes them for further sorting or pricing, discarding unsuitable items as per established guidelines.
  • Labels items with specific codes and prices in accordance with set procedures.
  • Organizes clothing on hangers and arranges them on racks.
  • Prepares unsuitable clothing for disposal.
  • Lifts and transports items to designated areas for processing, storage, or display.
  • Keeps the storage area tidy and organized; cleans surfaces, floors, and workspaces.
What we seek in candidates:
  • A High School diploma or G.E.D., with prior experience in retail preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: The role requires the ability to frequently lift, carry, and/or push/pull heavy materials, supplies, and equipment. Duties involve significant mobility, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, and transporting merchandise, with fewer periods of sitting.
