Nursing Technician Job Description

At White Plains Hospital Center, we are seeking a skilled and compassionate Nursing Technician to join our team. As a Nursing Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support to our patients and families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide patient care and non-patient care functions within the scope of practice under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Perform tasks such as ADLs, vital signs, I&O, EKGs, documentation, simple dressing changes, specimen collection, and assisting with meals and errands.
  • Assist with transporting patients, medications, or specimens, and ambulating patients as needed.
  • Provide urinary drainage care, assist with colostomy care, and apply binders as required.
  • Assist healthcare providers with procedures and physical exams, and complete other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Understand and adhere to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
  • Perform tasks listed in the job summary according to policy and procedure.
  • Integrate patient rights into work practice.
  • Utilize current methods of infection control.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement Initiatives.
  • Utilize appropriate steps in the decision-making process to include recognition and priority setting related to patient care and unit-based issues.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the healthcare team.
  • Complete competency requirements.
  • Attend mandatory inservices and staff meetings as required.
  • Utilize cost containment practices.
  • Adhere to all WPHC policies and procedures, including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance, and submission of annual physical.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High School Diploma/Equivalency.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or patient care setting is preferred.
  • Successful completion of the Nursing Technician Orientation.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required for all Nursing Technicians.

Physical and Mental Demands/Requirements:
  • May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks.
  • Must be able to move about the department and hospital constantly while attending to the needs of patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Requires continuous communication with patients, staff, and visitors of all educational levels.
  • Requires frequent use of computers and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to move objects up to 50 pounds and assist with moving patients of all weights with a minimum assist of one or assistive device/equipment.

  • Infant (29 days - less than 1 year).
  • Patients with developmental delays.
  • Pediatric (1-12 years).
  • Patients at end of life.

  • Adult (20-64 years).
  • Patients with cultural needs.
  • Geriatric (65+ years).
