Safety Supervisor Job Summary

Rumpke Waste and Recycling is seeking a highly skilled Safety Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations within your assigned areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular health and safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with corporate safety policies and regulations.
  • Schedule and conduct observations and vehicle inspections to evaluate knowledge, practices, and compliance.
  • Perform incident and injury investigations, including remedial driver and safety training classes.
  • Interact with insurance companies and regulatory agencies, including OSHA, DOT, EPA, and local fire and police agencies.
  • Train and coach employees on safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and company policies.
  • Deliver training on safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and company policies.
  • Conduct monthly in-service safety meetings.
  • Interact with management to review trends and identify preventable occurrences.
  • Ensure all safety documentation and records are maintained in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Assist with new driver qualification processes and continued qualification of drivers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with subcontracted employees and services to ensure DOT compliance.
  • Assist with loss control claims and respond to emergency situations.
  • Provide leadership and a positive work atmosphere, promoting positive relationships with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
  • Prepare and present reports as necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Often lifting/carrying a maximum of 35 pounds.
  • Often pushing/pulling a maximum of 35 pounds.
  • Frequently walking.
  • Continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and/or balancing.
  • Continuous working inside and outside in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter.

Requirements:

  • Possess a strong background in dealing with people under difficult circumstances, customer service, or a training position.
  • Computer skills, with a working knowledge of Windows applications and Microsoft applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Process and results-oriented, with a commitment to organizational success.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays, and be available to address safety issues by phone.

Additional Working Conditions:

  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable).
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language.
