Position Overview: The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA) is in search of a qualified candidate for the role of Deputy General Counsel. This position is pivotal in overseeing a diverse range of corporate, legal, legislative, and regulatory issues that impact VHHA and its affiliated hospitals and health systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive legal counsel to VHHA and its subsidiaries on matters related to corporate governance, contractual obligations, employment law, real estate transactions, intellectual property rights, and compliance with government regulations.
- Engage in the analysis of legislative proposals and track regulatory developments pertinent to the healthcare sector on behalf of VHHA and its members.
- Serve as the Assistant Secretary to the Board of Directors for VHHA and its affiliates, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare laws, including HIPAA, as well as expertise in corporate law, contract law, and regulations governing tax-exempt organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, research, and resolve complex legal issues, providing thorough evaluations of various legal documents.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the capacity to articulate ideas clearly and persuasively in both written and verbal formats.
Work Environment: This is a full-time role that necessitates regular travel within the metropolitan area and occasional travel throughout the state. A Juris Doctor degree and active membership in the Virginia State Bar are mandatory, along with a minimum of five years of relevant legal experience. Experience in health law, particularly in corporate regulatory and transactional contexts, is highly desirable. Advanced degrees such as a Master of Health Administration or Master of Public Policy are preferred.
