About the Position:

Serves as a Paralegal Specialist responsible for providing technical paralegal functions, including research through legal information networks, evaluation, and processing of civil and administrative matters. Manages legal services administrative activities and the income tax program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical functions for the office, including interviewing clients, evaluating legal situations or needs, conducting legal research, analyzing information, and preparing drafts and/or edits legal or administrative documents.
  • Provides guidance and documentation for assisting clients in various Civilian Administrative law matters.
  • Acts on behalf of the Legal Assistance Office to contact various businesses, insurance companies, local/state/out of state courts, and other agencies to verify facts provided.
  • Performs the full range of administrative functions for the Legal Assistance office, including point of contact with the on-line client database system (CIS) and coordination of the implementation and introduction of new and revised software applications.
  • Organizes legal reference materials, including responsibility for the preventive law program consisting of articles/client handouts and briefings for numerous soldiers.

Requirements:

  • Must possess a current notary license or be able to obtain and maintain a notary license with the State of Alaska.
  • Temporary Duty travel (TDY) may be required up to 10% of the time.

Qualifications:

One year of specialized experience performing paralegal duties, including gathering and organizing facts and relevant evidence, and preparing reports on pertinent statutes, court decisions, legal opinions, and/or other legal documents for attorney use.

Education:

Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program.
