Job Summary

The County of Geary, KS is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Equipment Operator to join our team. As an Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for providing road and bridge maintenance and construction, construction and maintenance materials handling, and facilities maintenance. You will also be expected to provide responsive, courteous, and efficient service to County residents and the general public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate equipment such as tandem dump trucks, mowers, tractors, and front-end loaders for road and bridge maintenance and construction.
  • Load materials and perform manual work as required.
  • Install tubes and culverts, repair drainage system damage, build fences and guardrails, and repair and rebuild bridges.
  • Mow and cut brush, work as a flag person, and remove snow in the winter.
  • Pour concrete for public works projects, haul materials such as clay, rock, and sand, and remove dead animals and other hazards from roadways.
  • Perform minor vehicle maintenance, perform light mechanical work, and perform welding or cutting iron tasks.
  • Accurately complete required paperwork, including time worked, time on task, locations, and quantity of material used.
  • Handle various assignments, including general maintenance work, painting, moving furniture, building bleachers, and cleanup of grounds.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in truck driving, including a current Class A Kansas CDL.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance, safety operations of equipment, and ability to comprehend, retain, and apply County, State, and Federal policies and legislation.
  • Ability to operate various types of equipment, use two-way radios, computer, fax machine, measuring tapes, levels, hand tools, power tools, chain saws, and other machinery.
  • Ability to use GPS and GIS data relating to county landmarks, roads, etc.

The duties of this job include physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, standing, reaching, walking, lifting, and/or moving (up to 50 pounds), grasping, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, and repetitive motions.

Must be able to operate equipment and machinery in all types of weather conditions, including snow removal in the winter.
