Job Summary

An Adjunct Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students in a variety of settings, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses. The incumbent will implement curricula, instruct assigned courses, and evaluate student learning to foster student success.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Plan, organize, and instruct courses as assigned by the Department Chairperson or supervisor, utilizing effective instructional strategies, the learning management system (LMS), and appropriate communication to promote student success.
  2. Demonstrate sound practices in instruction and classroom management that respond to students' diverse academic needs.
  3. Follow the prescribed course outline and use texts selected by the department, along with other supplemental materials deemed appropriate by the Department Chairperson.
  4. Provide instruction according to the class meeting schedule and instructional hours established for the session, and delivery method (face-to-face, hybrid, web-enhanced, or online). Notify the Department Chairperson of the necessity of cancelling any class meeting prior to the class or in emergencies as soon thereafter as possible.
  5. Assist students toward the successful completion of course(s) by providing outreach, guidance, and timely feedback.
  6. Maintain adequate and timely student records, including grades posted in the LMS in a timely fashion, and evaluate and report students' progress and attendance in a timely manner.
  7. Encourage students' completion of the course evaluation form, review course evaluation summaries, and develop a plan for improvement, as appropriate.
  8. Attend and participate in various College meetings for the purpose of orientation, professional development, or other departmental or operational activity as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The incumbent should possess knowledge of sound instructional techniques and methods, relevant subject matter in the discipline/department, computers and instructional methodology, theoretical foundations of learning and instruction, and competency-based learning. Additionally, the incumbent should be able to use teaching strategies that promote successful learning, use assessment to enhance learning, understand and make appropriate use of instructional technology, and form an inclusive environment that respects diverse talents and ways of learning.

Minimum Qualifications

The incumbent should hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and have four (4) years of relevant experience.
