Job Summary

We are seeking a Part-time Cashier to join our team at Great Lakes Ace Hardware, Inc. As a Cashier, you will be the primary point of contact for customers, responsible for maintaining a positive company image and promoting our goodwill through your attitude, appearance, and concern for store profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate cash register by scanning merchandise, engaging customers through suggestive selling, and thanking them for shopping at GLA.
  • Process refunds and issue in-store merchandise credit to customers for returned merchandise.
  • Use loss prevention techniques to reduce shortages and prevent shoplifting.
  • Follow GLA policies and procedures for all transactions, ensuring customers receive benefits of being an Ace Rewards member.
  • Maintain familiarity with all ads, rebates, and special pricing, reporting errors to management.
  • Answer telephones and refer calls to proper departments using the paging system and two-way radios.
  • Assist customers in locating merchandise, process special orders, and display, stock, and maintain merchandise on end caps, shelves, counters, or tables.
  • Collect carts and carry merchandise out to customer cars if needed.
  • Assist and/or make recommendations to customers in service areas, including chain, rope, key, and glass cutting, screen repair, and knife sharpening.
  • Follow nightly maintenance checklist to ensure proper store recovery and cleanliness of assigned work areas.
  • Refer customer complaints to proper persons for resolution.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating instructions, and policy manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively with customers and associates.
  • Ability to understand and respond to verbal instructions or questions.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Compensation Details

$14.00 per hour
