Civil Engineer

Shive Hattery Group, Inc., a premier architecture and engineering consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to lead our structural design efforts. With 16 offices across the US, we offer a unique blend of resources and personal connections.

This exciting opportunity is part of our Higher Education and Healthcare team, where you will oversee the design and leadership of structural engineering projects. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to delivering high-quality services to our clients.

As a Civil Engineer - Project Lead, you will be responsible for:

• Leading structural design efforts for higher education, healthcare, industrial, and government clients.
• Designing new structures and assessing existing ones, with a primary emphasis on structures that support district energy utilities.
• Collaborating with experienced engineers and technicians within multi-discipline teams.
• Overseeing shop drawing reviews, conducting construction site observations, and participating in studies related to proposed infrastructure improvements.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college/university.
• 5-8 years of experience in design and as a leader of structural design projects, with expertise in designing underground structures and thermal utility supports.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Iowa or ability to obtain immediate licensure.

We are looking for individuals with:

• Proficiency in modeling and viewing software such as Revit, Navisworks, and Recap, as well as experience with structural engineering design software like Risa, Profis, Enercalc, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with other disciplines and understand their design requirements.
• Effective time and workload management skills, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing work efficiently.
