Responsibilities- Assess and prioritize patient needs, utilizing triage skills to make quick and accurate assessments of incoming patients.
- Obtain patient history and pertinent family history, checking for allergies and current medications.
- Establish, monitor, and recognize cardiac rhythms, taking blood samples and administering medications and intra-venous therapies as needed.
- Document plan of care and care given in the patient's medical record, verifying transcription of physician's orders.
- Communicate pertinent patient data to the Charge Nurse and/or Physician as appropriate, re-assessing patient's condition and revising plans-of-care based on problems identified.
- Operate defibrillator, EKG machines, and cardiac monitors, and other technical emergency equipment, caring for patients with Swan-Gans catheters, arterial lines, and mechanical ventilators.
- Participate in discharge planning, titrating medications as needed.
- Graduate from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate state-accredited agency and accredited by either the ACEN or CCNE.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in ER/Major Trauma, with no more than a six-month gap working in that setting.
- Preferred to have CEN certification, or CCRN through AACN with ED experience.
- Current license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth in the U.S. or the district of Columbia.
- Current certification in BLS/CPR by an American Health Association Vendor, and ACLS certification.
