Finishing Painter II

POSITION OBJECTIVE: This role, reporting to the Paint Cell Leader, is designed for an individual who will cultivate the necessary skills for preparing and cleaning buses prior to secondary finish paint applications. The candidate will also learn to apply primers and finish coatings under the supervision of a Painter I, adhering to established procedures from our coating supplier and New Flyer.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Ability to apply tape and/or decals in compliance with customer specifications is essential. Completion of all assigned training within the designated timeframe is required. The candidate must successfully pass all sections of the paint application skills assessment after training is concluded. Training includes: ensuring wrist flexibility for optimal spray technique, maintaining a straight paint gun trajectory, achieving an even coat of material, and proper triggering of the paint gun. The candidate must maintain the correct distance of the paint gun from the surface and ensure proper overlap during application. Identifying and rectifying any defects prior to coating application is necessary. Proper preparation of the bus for finish coatings involves masking, taping, utilizing a blower to eliminate loose dirt and debris, cleaning, and tacking. The candidate must be capable of disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling the spray gun as needed. Adherence to safety protocols, including wearing a full-face respirator, gloves, and a paint suit during coating applications, is mandatory. Compliance with all company 5S standards is expected.
Qualifications:
- Complete hand spray check sheet for each color.
- Ensure booth is cleaned before bringing in the bus, including areas behind the robot rail.
- Remove any scrap materials before painting the bus.
- Clean buses that remain over the weekend.
- Prepare any bus needing paint if it has been idle for more than three days.
- Label all secondary containers appropriately.
- Store all flammable materials in a fire cabinet, covered and labeled, overnight.
- Complete check sheets for all buses sprayed with robots.
- Keep booth doors closed unless moving a bus.
- Handle buses ready for paint only with gloves and Tyvek suits to avoid contamination.
- Dispose of trash at the end of each day.
- Document paint shake data in the provided logbook in the mixing area.
