The Clinical Respiratory Specialist is responsible for delivering respiratory care to patients across a spectrum of health conditions by conducting assessments, developing care plans, implementing treatments, and evaluating the effectiveness of the respiratory care provided. This role is integral to the multidisciplinary healthcare team, ensuring that patients receive direct care, education, and preparation for ongoing care following discharge.

Essential Educational Background

  • Completion of an Associate Degree Level program accredited by CoARC in Respiratory Therapy.

Experience Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.

Mandatory Licenses and Certifications

  • Certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (CRT) is required.
  • RRT Certification is preferred or a plan to obtain it must be in place.
  • Active Vermont State license is necessary.
  • BLS Certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Certifications in ACLS, PALS, and NRP must be achieved within 60 days of employment.

Key Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Proficient understanding of respiratory care assessments and management of mechanical ventilation.
  • Familiarity with respiratory equipment and its operation.
  • Basic skills in EKG interpretation.
  • Capability to deliver high-level direct clinical care.
  • Strong critical thinking skills applicable to all facets of patient care.
  • Ability to administer surfactants to neonates.
  • Conflict resolution capabilities.
  • Completion of required clinical competencies and other essential competencies.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Windows desktop applications and navigation.
  • Willingness to be on-call and work varied shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays) and to cover shifts on short notice, with a requirement to reside within a 30-minute radius of the facility.
