Job Title: Metallurgist
About the Role:
We are seeking a professional to fill the role of Metallurgist at our underground Zinc operation. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a team of experienced professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Quality Assurance/Control: Manage quality assurance and quality control for the assay lab and mill operations.
- Process Monitoring: Monitor the process in the mill to maintain or increase production.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the Mine and Shaft Departments to maximize opportunities and minimize production interruptions in the mine.
- Maintenance Planning: Oversee mill maintenance planning.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot issues in the production process.
- Technical Assistance: Provide technical assistance to mill operators, millwrights, and lab technicians.
- Ore Body Testing: Run tests on new ore bodies and chemicals to get optimal recoveries.
- Inventory Management: Maintain chemical inventory and ordering.
- Metallurgical Accounting: Maintain metallurgical accounting and control of material inventories (concentrate storage, ore tanks, ore pad, etc.).
- Data Provision: Provide A/R Department with access to metallurgical data for their preparation of provisional invoices, assay exchange, and negotiation for final invoices.
- Schedule Coordination: Communicate concentration inventories and production schedules to Shipping Department daily/weekly to allow for efficient schedule of outbound concentrate haulage.
- Environmental Coordination: Coordinate with Environmental Department regarding discharge water quality, flow, treatment, and TSF inspections.
- Industry Knowledge: Maintain current knowledge of industry practice, innovation, and technological change.
- Budget Planning: Budget planning for production operations and capital.
- Supervision: Manage the mill supervisor, millwright lead, laboratory technicians, and other mill personnel as needed.
- Compliance: Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality, and code of conduct.
- Discretion and Judgment: Consistently exercise discretion and judgment in job performance.
- Safety: Work without risk or harm to self and others.
- Punctuality and Attendance: Punctuality and regular attendance required.
- Development Opportunities: Help develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
- Skills and Abilities: XRF, AA, titrations, mill surveys, chemical addition, and process flows.
- Safety Leadership: Ensure all employees and contractors are working in a safe manner in line with mine site standard operating procedures and MSHA safety guidelines.
- Other Duties: Other duties as assigned.
