Job Summary

Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist, this role provides occupational therapy services to patients to assist in improving basic motor functions, reasoning abilities, and compensating for permanent loss of function. The Occupational Therapist Assistant will teach patients to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments, and may provide treatment to patients with cognitive impairment, psychosocial dysfunction, and physical disability.

Essential Functions
  • Assists Occupational Therapists in providing therapy to patients and participates in the preparation and execution of the patient's overall plan of care.
  • Provides a treatment program as planned, delegated, and supervised by the Occupational Therapist to restore and return maximal function to the patient. Assesses the effectiveness of treatment and modifies treatment methods under the direction of the Occupational Therapist.
  • Documentation for each patient is in compliance with department standards, medical-legal, regulatory, and reimbursement procedures. Ensures that required documentation for activities within areas of responsibility is completed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Communicates with other members of the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services. Attends and participates in interdisciplinary conferences to coordinate patient care. Provides input into education information for family or caregivers regarding the Occupational Therapy program.
  • Alerts the supervising occupational therapist or designees of potential health problems or changes in the patient's condition.
  • May instruct and train rehabilitation staff, nursing, other medical staff, and students regarding patient needs and rehabilitation services.
  • Participates in ongoing process improvement and program development.
  • Provides transportation of the patient as needed using the employee's personal vehicle to community-based resources related to the patient's therapeutic goals.
Qualifications
  • Required Associate's Degree from an accredited therapy assistant program.
  • Therapy assistance experience preferred.
  • Experience in neurological injury, TBI, and Spinal Cord injury preferred.
  • LIC-Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA) upon hire.
  • CRT-Occupational Therapy Assistant, Certified (COTA) - NB-COT upon hire required.
  • LIC-Driver's License - State of Michigan (Home Care only) upon hire required.
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required or CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required.
