Olympic College is seeking a part-time adjunct faculty member to teach courses in American Ethnic & Gender Studies (AEGS). The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in a related field and teaching experience. The position requires in-person instruction with a daytime availability between 8:00 AM and 3:15 PM and evenings as required from 5:00 PM to 7:15 PM.
Responsibilities- Teach evening, distance, and in-person classes on the Poulsbo, Shelton, and Bremerton campuses when requested.
- Provide quality teaching, including related preparation, grading, and record keeping.
- Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes by the first day of classes and to the division office as requested.
- Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities to meet those needs.
- Punctually communicate with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
- Deliver instructional course content with excitement and enthusiasm.
- Use a variety of methods and modes of instruction, including Ethnic Studies and Indigenous Studies pedagogy, to ensure student success.
- Demonstrate a commitment to teaching students with little or no background, as well as the experienced student desiring to further their career.
- Utilize a variety of assessment activities to evaluate student learning and achievement.
- Demonstrate success working with individuals and groups representing a wide range of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds as well as military veterans.
- Demonstrate ability to remain current in Ethnic and Gender Studies, especially with regard to theories and pedagogy.
- Support diversity in higher education through application of culturally responsive teaching pedagogies and the use of diverse resources/voice, as well as by contributing through actions.
- Foster a climate of multi-cultural understanding and appreciation.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the Olympic College mission, diversity, and a learning-centered climate.
- Demonstrate success incorporating accessibility and special needs accommodations via course materials and classroom activities.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in the classroom and with other professionals for effective and positive working relationships.
- Collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, and students as part of an educational team.
- Incorporate technology in the delivery of course content and services, including use of the College-approved learning management system.
- Uphold Olympic College's values and ethics necessary to maintain a positive climate.
- Master's degree in Ethnic Studies, Gender Studies, African American Studies, Black Studies, Africana Studies, Latino/x Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicano/x Studies, Asian American Studies, Native American Studies, American Indian Studies, Indigenous Studies, Oceania and Pacific Islander Studies, or directly related area from an accredited college or university.
