Job Title: Animation Instructor

Job Summary:

The Department of Animation at The New York Film Academy Los Angeles Campus is seeking a talented and ambitious instructor who specializes in Houdini/Python, Visual Effects, Animation, Stop-Motion, and/or Compositing. The ideal candidate will have the ability to execute and instruct on the entire animation pipeline, working in a diverse environment with students from all around the world.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver instruction in accordance with the learning objectives set for the course, including practical skills, methods, theories, and techniques.
  • Provide one-on-one consultations with students, if and when necessary.
  • Manage course syllabus materials & lesson plans, and develop as needed.
  • Facilitate peer assessment and encourage discussion & constructive criticism in class.
  • Assess student work, including but not limited to, assigning projects, papers, and exercises.
  • Submit attendance & grades promptly to the Registrar's Office, and inform the appropriate administrative staff if students are not meeting academic standards and need academic support; if students are suspected of committing plagiarism; if incidents occur in class which cause an unsafe learning environment for students & faculty.
  • Adhere to institution-wide policies & procedures and follow the correct protocol with respect to disciplining students.
  • Attend & participate in faculty meetings and/or departmental curricular meetings, as requested by Department Chair.
  • If requested, serve as advisors or on Thesis Committees and evaluate undergraduate or graduate student Thesis work.
  • Prep and organize gear for class; can include, but is not limited to film and digital cameras, lights and various stands if appropriate to courses taught.
  • Making safety the first priority for any activity on set.
  • Participate in day-long production workshops on the backlot as a supervising instructor (no lifting) if needed (if appropriate to courses taught).
  • Guide students through hands-on classes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Broad & in-depth knowledge of the subject area or discipline where they teach.
  • Substantial professional experience in the discipline of Animation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Office environment.
  • Ethical/Honest confidentiality, honesty, transparence, and open communication.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Collaborative willing to work with fellow instructors on any required departmental work, such as curricular development and planning.
Experience, Education, Certification:
  • Master (equivalent professional experience) in Houdini/Python, Visual Effects, Animation Stop-Motion or Compositing Animation or related field.
  • 2-3 years of Houdini/Python, Visual Effects, Animation Stop-Motion or Compositing experience for television or feature film.
  • Experience in armature creation-wire and ball-joint, modeling and skinning.
  • Program skills: Dragon, After-Effects, Premiere, Photoshop.
  • Camera & Lighting Skills needed to light and produce Stop-Motion.
Representative Machines, Tools, Equipment and/or Software Used:
  • Office equipment including, but not limited to, computer, phone, fax machine, copier, and calculator.
  • Filmmaking Equipment (if appropriate to courses taught).
  • Microsoft Office.
  • Google Suite.
Environmental/Atmospheric Working Conditions:
  • School environment.
  • Film Shoots (if appropriate to courses taught).
