Job Summary

The Ann Arbor YMCA is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lifeguard to join our Aquatics Department. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons in and around the pool area.

Key Responsibilities
  • **Serve as a Role Model**: Demonstrate the YMCA's core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to members and staff.
  • **Enforce Aquatic Rules**: Adhere to and consistently enforce aquatic rules and procedures to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
  • **Maintain Surveillance**: Maintain constant surveillance of the water and pool deck areas to identify potential hazards and respond to emergencies.
  • **Emergency Response**: Wear a rescue fanny pack and rescue tube at all times while on duty and be prepared to respond to emergencies, including administering CPR and First Aid.
  • **Pool Area Maintenance**: Maintain the cleanliness of the pool area, including the pool deck and surrounding areas, when not performing primary duties.
  • **Incident Reporting**: Accurately record and submit incident reports as required.
  • **Certifications**: Maintain current certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, O2, and First Aid.
  • **Safety Knowledge**: Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations, including knowledge of emergency procedures and the location of emergency equipment.
  • **Availability**: Work at least two weekend shifts each session.
Requirements
  • **Age Requirement**: Must be at least 15 years of age.
  • **Prior Experience**: Prior lifeguarding experience is preferred.
  • **Certifications**: Current Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, O2, and First Aid certifications are required.
  • **Swimming Ability**: Proficiency in swimming and safety skills is required.
  • **Cooperative Spirit**: Must possess a cooperative spirit committed to character development by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to staff, members, and the general public.
  • **Communication Skills**: Ability to relate with pool patrons in a positive manner and communicate effectively.
  • **Physical Abilities**: Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.
