Actuarial Director Opportunity

CNA Insurance is seeking an experienced Actuarial Director to lead our highly visible and complex reserve reviews spanning Healthcare medical malpractice and Surety. As a key member of our Actuarial organization, you will be responsible for overseeing a team of three reports and collaborating with other team members to assess and monitor reserves, generate actionable insights, and deepen financial acumen.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage a team of actuarial professionals to achieve business objectives.
  • Provide actuarial guidance and business insights to business partners and functional subject matter experts.
  • Build strong relationships with direct reports, peers, business partners, and leaders across multiple functions to ensure optimal implementation of business strategies aligned with actuarial insights and analytics.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement reserving strategy for Healthcare and Surety.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of actuarial policies, business strategies, and goals, regularly evaluating performance against goals and holding self and team accountable for achieving desired results.
  • Oversee the production of highly technical actuarial analyses and reports to communicate to other analytical staff and to senior management.
  • Stay up to date in actuarial expertise, state/territory regulations, and industry trends and development to lead decisions related to line of business.
  • Ensure team maintains clear documentation of methods.
Requirements
  • Senior level knowledge of actuarial principles, practices, and procedures and industry issues as they relate to the organization.
  • Ability to effectively lead, coach, and develop an actuarial group.
  • Ability to achieve results by taking a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives.
  • Experience influencing business partners at various levels.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve complex situations and issues.
  • Proven ability to exercise professional judgment, manage available resources, and assume responsibility for decisions that have impact.
  • Ability to creatively and effectively manage through ambiguous and challenging problems, takes appropriate levels of risk, and leads through change.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent.
  • Typically a minimum of ten years of related work experience.
  • Typically has attained Fellowship accreditation (FCAS).
