Salary: $173,445.92 per year

About the Role

The Director, Data Science (AI) plays a pivotal role in building and maintaining advanced analytic models, supporting our institutions and headquarters in areas related to admissions, retention, and financial outcomes. This individual will work closely with senior leadership to understand their needs and assess how they can be met through specific analyses.

This role reports to the Senior Director of Strategy and Business Development and is part of the Strategy and Business Development group. The Senior Data Science Leader will manage one to two direct reports and, on occasion, external vendors.

Key Responsibilities

  • BUILD AND LEAD A HIGH-PERFORMING TEAM OF EXPERTS IN APPLICATIONS OF AI FOR USE BY VARIOUS INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONSTITUENTS, INCLUDING STUDENTS AND FACULTY, TO IMPROVE CONSTITUENT SATISFACTION AND PERFORMANCE.
  • HELP SET GOVERNANCE STANDARDS, POLICIES, AND PROCEDURES FOR SECURE AND ETHICAL USE OF AI THROUGHOUT THE COMPANY.
  • COLLABORATE WITH OTHER ANALYTICAL LEADERS TO FULFILL THE STRATEGIC DIRECTION OF THE BUSINESS THROUGH DATA AND INFORMATION EXPLORATION, RESEARCH OF EMERGING AI TECHNOLOGIES OR ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES, AND EXECUTION OF ASSIGNMENTS.
  • IDENTIFY AND MANAGE EXISTING AND EMERGING RISKS THAT STEM FROM BUSINESS ACTIVITIES AND THE JOB ROLE.
  • ENSURE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH BUSINESS ACTIVITIES ARE EFFECTIVELY IDENTIFIED, MEASURED, MONITORED, AND CONTROLLED.
  • OVERSEE AND CARRY OUT THE EXPLORATION OF PROMISING NEW TECHNOLOGIES, ANALYTICAL METHODS, AND DATA SOURCES (INTERNAL & EXTERNAL) THAT HAVE POTENTIAL TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE ENTERPRISE.
  • PARTNER WITH ENTERPRISE ANALYTICAL AND IT TEAMS TO BUILD CORE CAPABILITIES AND PROCESSES.
  • IDENTIFY ADDITIONAL RESOURCE NEEDS RANGING FROM IT INVESTMENTS, 3RD PARTY SUPPORT, OR ADDITIONAL ANALYSTS AND DEVELOPERS.
  • UNDERSTAND THE BUSINESS DIRECTION, ENVIRONMENT, AND STRATEGIES TO IDENTIFY AND RECOMMEND AND IS ABLE TO PLAN A LONG-TERM ROADMAP OF SOLUTIONS THAT INFLUENCE DECISION MAKERS AND INSPIRE CHANGE.
  • USES LARGE AND COMPLEX DATA SETS FROM LARGE AMOUNTS OF STRUCTURED AND UNSTRUCTURED DATA (INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL) TO ENABLE ANALYTICAL SOLUTIONS.

Requirements

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Science Leader who has:

  • Eight (8) years of experience in predictive modeling, large data analysis and data or computer science.
  • Three (3) years of direct management experience, preferably including with software/app development teams.
  • Extensive and recent experience in NLP and the design, development, evaluation, customization, application of LLM's and multi-modal AI. Experience with a broad range of use cases and audiences for analytic and generative AI is preferred.
  • Expert in front-end language (JavaScript, CSS) and at least one compiled language (e.g., Java, C) and one dynamic scripting language (e.g., Python).
  • Experience in UI/UX design.
  • Strong track record of communicating results, insights, ideas, and technical solutions to Senior Executive Management (or equivalent) and to audiences with limited understanding of technical concepts in AI/ML.
  • Experience in data mining and wrangling and statistical analysis.
  • Excellent pattern recognition and predictive modeling skills.
  • Knowledge and application of data science principles and experience with data science methodologies.
  • Experience with the following statistical and predictive modeling approaches: Gaussian Process; Markov Models; Hierarchical Clustering; K-Means; Linear Regression; Logistic Regression; Monte Carlo Simulation; Neural Networks.
  • Deep technical skills, consulting experience, and business savvy to work with all levels and disciplines within our customers' organization.
