Job Summary

UCLA Health is seeking a skilled Mohs Tissue Technician to join our dynamic team in the Dermatology Department. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will play a crucial role in the identification of skin cancer cells, particularly in melanoma cases. Your expertise will extend to the use of special stains and immunohistochemistry, ensuring a thorough understanding of skin cancer cell identification.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe lab environment according to OSHA standards, using meticulous preparation, labeling, and storage of slides.
• Prepare for Mohs surgery by setting up cryostat, staining station, and supplies.
• Embed and cut tissue and place on the slide for staining.
• Stain and cover slip slides for physician review.
• Follow specimen protocols and procedures within required timeframes for embedding frozen surgical specimens.
• Maintain, document, and troubleshoot equipment, reagents, temperature logs, and/or other supplies.

Requirements

• Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science; or two years of college courses in the natural sciences plus two years of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• At least 6 months Mohs Tissue Technician laboratory experience.
• Good organizational skills are needed to maintain work flow.
• Knowledge of CLIA laboratory protocol.
• Knowledge of methods for operating laboratory equipment.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety standards.
• Knowledge of CAP and JCAHO standards.
• Skills in accurate computer data entry in laboratory information systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active membership to American Society of Mohs Histotechnology and National Society of Histotechnology.
• Mohs Technician Certificate.
