Job Summary

This position provides therapeutic management for patients with speech, language, and/or cognitive disorders. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a speech-language pathologist to provide direct treatment to patients, conduct screenings, and document patient progress.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides direct treatment to patients to meet communication needs in the areas of augmentative communication, cognitive rehabilitation, life skills, expressive language, and receptive language.
  • Conducts speech and language screenings without interpretation, utilizing screening protocols established by the supervising speech-language pathologist.
  • Documents patient progress, without interpretation of findings, toward meeting established objectives as stated in the treatment plan and report this information to the supervising speech-language pathologist.
  • Assists the speech-language pathologists with informal documentation during an intervention session, prepares materials, and assists with other clerical duties as specified by the supervising speech-language pathologist.
  • Educates the patient and the caregiver about the goals of the program, methods of accomplishing goals, how to perform the home program, and injury prevention.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary training program approved by the Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and one of the following degrees or certifications from a regionally-accredited program: Associate's Degree in SPL assisting, Bachelor's Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Post Baccalaureate certificate in Communication Sciences and Disorders, ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in SPL, or Current OR SPL. AHA BLS certification is also required within one month of hire.
