Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Special Education Learning Center Teacher to join our team at Portland Public Schools. As a key member of our educational community, you will play a vital role in providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with diverse needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs of students with special needs.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure seamless integration of special education services and promote academic excellence.
  • Provide direct instruction, accommodations, and modifications to support students' academic, social, and emotional growth.
  • Use data-driven approaches to inform instruction and monitor student progress, making adjustments as needed to ensure optimal learning outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to ensure a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices in special education, including research-based instructional strategies and technologies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid Oregon Teaching License with a Special Education endorsement.
  • Experience working with students with severe developmental delays and diverse learning needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities, while maintaining a focus on student learning and well-being.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Experience working in a similar classroom setting, with a focus on special education.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students and families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
