Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist Assistant to join our team at Carle Foundation Hospital. As a Surgical Technologist Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our surgical services department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist surgeons and surgical technologists during operative procedures, ensuring that all necessary instruments and equipment are available and properly sterilized.
  • Prepare and maintain a clean and organized sterile field, adhering to strict infection control protocols.
  • Transport patients and equipment as needed, ensuring timely and efficient movement throughout the hospital.
  • Assist with turnovers in different specialties, including preparing and restocking instrument trays and supplies.
  • Operate reprocessing/sterilization equipment, including sterilizers, aerators, and ultrasonic devices.
  • Monitor the integrity of instruments to reduce loss and/or damage, and inspect instruments for defects.
  • Collaborate with surgical technologists, RNs, and surgical instrument leads to ensure resources are available and to troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
  • Provide technical assistance to surgeons, RNs, and support staff as needed.
  • Independently set up and operate equipment for a variety of surgical specialties.
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled and in good standing in a Surgical Technologist Program.
  • Will graduate within two years of hire/start date.
  • Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser.
  • Multicultural sensitivity.
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Knowledge of surgical conscience, electronic systems equipment, and interrelationships of pre-op, intra-op, and post-op.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
