Job Summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Senior Medical Assistant - Clinical Lead to join our team. This role will lead and guide Medical Assistants in the performance of duties, administering para-professional nursing care, and coordinating patient needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Guidance: Lead and guide Medical Assistants in the performance of duties, ensuring high-quality patient care and efficient workflow.
  • Para-Professional Nursing Care: Administer para-professional nursing care, including preparing patients for physician examinations and administering and/or recording laboratory tests.
  • Patient Coordination: Coordinate patient needs, including preparation and organization of patient clinic charts, and assist in prioritizing and assigning work based on workflow fluctuations.
  • Staff Development: Participate in orientation and ongoing training of staff, providing input for the assessment and evaluation of staff performance.
  • Vendor Management: Serve as a point of contact for vendors and perform all functions of a medical assistant.
  • Supply Management: Stock patient rooms/department with supplies and equipment as necessary, conduct audits of department supplies and equipment, and perform ordering functions.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with members of the healthcare team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care, and may record patient history for medical staff review.
  • Measurement and Screening: Perform measurement and screening procedures according to protocol, including height, weight, head circumference, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, audiometry, and vision testing.
  • Specimen Collection: Collect specimens, including drawing blood, and/or assist the physician or nurses in collection of specimens, as required.
  • Electrocardiograms: Perform electrocardiograms in accordance with physician orders.
  • Examination Assistance: Assist physicians and nurses with examinations and procedures related to the clinical area-of-assignment.
  • Room Maintenance: Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms, stock assigned rooms and cupboards, and ensure that par levels of supplies are maintained on a daily basis.
  • Data Recording: Ensure that all data collected for procedures performed is recorded clearly and accurately on appropriate forms and in medical records.
  • Administrative Tasks: Perform a variety of other functions, such as maintaining medical records, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records, etc.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Successful completion of Medical Assisting program at an accredited school OR 1-3 years of medical assistant experience, OR 1-3 years of Emergency Medical Technician experience with current NYS DOH EMT certification OR 1-3 years of CNA experience with valid Current Nursing Assistant Certification in New York State, required. Plus specialized certifications as needed.
  • Years of Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience, required.
