Job Opportunity

We are seeking a temporary Mechanical Intern to join our team at Baird, Hampton & Brown. As a Mechanical Intern, you will have the opportunity to learn essential skills from our established team of engineers and gain exposure to HVAC/Plumbing design projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work alongside experienced engineers to design heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, create mechanical drawings, perform design calculations, and code research.
  • Assist in plumbing design, including domestic cold water, hot water, sanitary waste and vent, roof drainage, gas, and compressed-air utilities.
  • Design constant volume and variable volume ductwork systems.
  • Prepare cost estimates, specifications, and design analyses.
  • Balance workload and varying requirements of multiple projects and project types.
  • Provide field reports of the installed conditions per the design documents.
  • Accompany engineers on site visits to view ongoing company projects and review existing conditions.
Requirements
  • Enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 12-18 hours of Mechanical engineering courses.
  • Exposure to AutoCAD and Microsoft Office. Other relevant programs could include Revit, Bluebeam, Autodesk Inventor, HAP, or Trace 700.
Physical Demands

This position is primarily sedentary with long periods of sitting, but occasional walking and lifting up to 25lbs may occur. Occasionally bending, squatting, and reaching overhead may also occur. Extensive computer usage is required daily.

This is a temporary position with no medical benefits or paid time off (PTO). Should the role transition into a full-time, permanent position, benefits and enrollment information will be provided.
